John 14:6 — “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Recently my daughter and I were putting out our maple-syrup equipment. That involves tapping or drilling a small hole in the maple tree so the sap can flow into a pail, a line or something of the sort so that sap can accumulate, be gathered and boiled down to make maple syrup.

I was using a rechargeable drill with a wood bit to drill holes in our trees. As I was drilling, I was puzzled at my failure to create a hole. It finally dawned on me that my drill was turning in the wrong direction. With a flip of the switch on the drill and a change of direction, I was in business, and the process worked just like it was supposed to.

It struck me of the simple object lesson: To seek God’s forgiveness and salvation our own way or any way other than faith in Jesus Christ alone will not work, try as we may. We are all sinful people and naturally are going the wrong direction from God and His way. Yet when we acknowledge our sin to God (repent, which literally means a stopping, a turning, a changing of direction) and trust inJesus Christ, God’s Son, the Lamb of God who can only forgive sin, then we are going in the right direction.

How about you? To be saved, you MUST come to Jesus Christ as your savior; that involves repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. He is the right way, alone, to God and forgiveness and everlasting life.
