Molasses, raisins and strawberries, oh my! Prunes, liver and broccoli, oh my! These are just a few foods that are rich in iron. Eat these, along with meat, fish, and poultry, which are high in heme iron and most readily absorbed by your body. Of course, add some vitamin C-rich foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits to balance out your diet.

Why? We need you to have your iron level high enough to qualify for a blood donation. It’s as simple as that. There is an ongoing blood shortagethat will only worsen throughout the summer. That’s not so simple and may very well result in the loss of life.

So, get your iron level up and the lead out and come to the Wilton Community Blood Drive, which will be from 7–11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15. The drive will be at the Wilton Community Center. Call Nalani Bever at (608) 387-2311 or go online at redcrossblood.org to make an appointment.
