Elroy Public Library
The Elroy Public Library has some new events taking place in September and October.
In addition to the variety of programs continuing each week, there will be additional activities as part of the “Remember When” theme. These include the movie “Yesterday,” which be shown at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and a special program, “Monday Memories,” from 1–3 p.m. Mondays.
“Yesterday” tells the story of an aspiring singer-songwriter who, through a surprising series of events, performs Beatles songs that his audience never heard before.
“Monday Memories,” which highlights downtown Elroy, is an opportunity to look over photos as well as share memories and stories from decades past. Each week in October, Library Director Kari Preuss will share photos and stories, helping to describe the historical changes that occurred on portions of Elroy’s Main Street from the mid- and late 1800s until the current time.
The focus of “Monday Memories” will be two blocks of Main Street, between 266 Main St. (the Post Office) and 102 Main St. (Jim’s Trail Side Gallery) on the east side, and from the “triangle” to the corner of Main and Elroy streets on the west side. Kari is still looking for photos, especially from the 1950s until the present day. Elroy area residents and anyone who lived in the Elroy area who has photos of Main Street are asked to bring them to the library. All photos will be returned to their owners.
Also taking place at the Elroy Public Library is a visit from DNR RangerAndrew Haffele. Haffele will speak Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 4:30 p.m. on the restoration of the Elroy-Sparta State Trail, which was severely damaged in the 2018 floods. Ongoing programs that will continue throughout the month include the “Human Behavior” lecture series on Tuesday afternoons, the “Strong Bones” exercise program on Wednesday and Friday mornings, and the Nifty Needlers activities on Wednesday afternoons. All programs are free and open to the public. If interested, inquire at the library or visit www.elroylibrary.com.
