For Steve and Pat Brueggen, music might just be in their DNA. I fact, if an autopsy is ever done on the two brothers, one might discover blood vessels formed in the shape of treble clefs.

As far back in American history as one can go, music seems to always have been an important part of a Brueggen’s life. The Cashton area is no stranger to that. The Brueggen brothers have been in a band for most of their lives. Leather and Lace has been performing for decades, is completed by sisters Mary Beth and Jean, and Dan Chroninger (pedal steel player) joined the band in the ‘90s. The band plays a variety of music that exemplifies the family’s diverse taste in music, from polkas and waltzes to country and rock and roll.

Eventually, Steve and Pat, who grew up in Cashton, started a sound stage business together and appropriately named it B & B Stage & Sound.

As the years passed, they both began to miss the days when downtown Cashton came to life for a weekend. That yearning led to the idea of making the downtown the main attraction in the form of a one-day music festival. And Live on Main was born.

“For Steve and myself, we have always said when this business turns into work, we’re quitting … Twenty-eight years later, and we’re still having fun!” said Pat.

With a lot of help and putting a lot on the line, the Brueggens will bring Live on Main to Cashton on Father’s Day weekend, June 17. With the goal of offering a variety of music to suit just about any taste, the festival will include all-day performances from two stages situated on Main Street and a third venue inside the Cashton Community Hall. There will be fireworks at dusk. The event is a great time to come back to Cashton and reconnect with old friends and make some new ones and create some great memories.

From pop music to country and even Mexican and Island bands, there seems to be something for everyone. But the day isn’t limited to music. There will also be a pancake breakfast, car show, food court, beer garden and fireworks. Special features also are scheduled to take place inside a vacant building across form the community hall.

There may be a lot at stake, but for the two Cashton music addicts, this may have been destined to become a reality.
