The Town of Ridgeville Board got an update from communications company Bug Tussel at its meeting Monday, Feb. 10.
Supervisor Ron Luethe had heard from Bug Tussel spokeswoman Erin Wichman, who had told him the equipment had been placed on the tower in the Ridgeville and the company still had been doing testing at the site. She was hopeful that internet services soon would be available in the area, but didn’t give an exact date, Luethe added.
Bug Tussel will handle the internet service, AT&T will offer phone, and Direct TV will round out the package with television.
Multi-hazards mitigation plan
• Luethe also led a discussion about the Monroe County Multi-Hazards Mitigation Plan, which is valid until 2023. It had gone through FEMA and Wisconsin Emergency Management and is pending adoption by local municipalities. Monroe County recently had approved its plan.
He explained that the plan would help with inventorying county projects and determining what needed to be done to mitigate hazards such as flooding. It also is helpful when a county or municipality applies for grants. If a plan is in place when grants are being reviewed for distribution, it improves the municipality’s chances of receiving funds. The state and county already finance some of the projects, but this would be another avenue for more money.
Luethe had been in contact with Dave Bonifas of the Mississippi Regional Planning Commission. He had explained the resolution to Luethe and how it would be helpful for applying for grants.
“The municipalities havean opportunity to pass their own resolution which is a mirror to the one that the county has,” he said.
If a grant were to become available, the township may be able to take advantage of it.
Chairman Keith Giraud made a motion to adopt the resolution, and Ron Luethe seconded it.
Other business
• In other news, the board approved a bid for a new sander on the town’s one-ton truck.
• Clerk Rita Williams also informed the board she still was working with FEMA and there is a good chance more funding may come soon.
• The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9.
