The following were the Brookwood High School athletes of the month for May/June. Coaches’ comments follow the students’ names.
SOFTBALL
• Karina Hansen:“Karina Hansen is softball’s player of the month for May. The wins were not always there, but she put in a lot of extra time over the off-season months, preparing for the season. She kept us in most games, winning seven and giving us a chance to win seven or eight other games during the season. She greatly improved from last season on the mound, which can be attributed to her early mornings pitching in the gym. Her change-up improved, and she showed good, quiet leadership, being the only senior on the team. Her hitting also improved toward the end of the season, and she had a of couple big hitsfor us in the playoff game at Necedah.”
BASEBALL
• Ricky Myers:“Ricky hit .430 in May andhad an on-base percentage of .710 while logging many innings behind home plate.”
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
• Dan Peterson: “Dan showed consistent development throughout the season, was first-team all-conference in the 400, and qualified for the state meet in that event as well.”
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
• Shelly Powell: “Shelly has become an exceptional team leader and a confident competitor. She received first-team all-conference honors in the 1,600-meter run and qualified for the state meet in two events (1,600 relay and 3,200 relay).”
