The following were named Brookwood athletes of the month for September. Coaches’ comments follow the students’ names.
FOOTBALL — OFFENSE
• Henry Marriott: “From last season to this season, Henry made the move from left tackle to right tackle on our offensive line. Right tackle is the anchor of our o-line and sets up much of what we want to do as an offense. Through hard work and focus, Henry has developed himself into one of the top linemen in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. He is dominant on both sides of the ball, but particularly on offense, he has been a big part of why our offense has managed such a high average of points scored. In addition to great individual game play, Henry has turned into a tremendous leader and role model on our team. His presence this year has been outstanding!”
FOOTBALL — DEFENSE
• Cameron Zimmerman: “During September, Cameron has emerged as one of the more disruptive defensive players in the conference. He is consistently in the offense’s backfield disrupting plays and making plays for lost yardage. In four games, Cameron accrued 21 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and four quarterback sacks. He has bounced back and forth from nose-tackle to linebacker and has thrived at both spots. In addition, he has been a vocal leader and a model teammate all season long! His energy and attitude have helped keep us continually moving in a positive direction.”
VOLLEYBALL
• Alyssa Ottum: “Alyssa works diligently to improve her own skills, including after-practice time, and encourages others to do so. I can rely on her to handle details to make our team and practice run more smoothly. She consistently performs both offensively and defensively on the court and can persevere through difficult moments fearlessly. Alyssa is very attentive to coaching directions and works to implement these directions in her daily play. She is a great asset to our volleyball team!”
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
• Dylan Powell: “As a freshman, Dylan has placed in the top 10 of the high school races in five out of the six races thus far this season. His positive attitude and fearless style of running has lead Dylan to be one of the top three runners on a very talented boys team. He is always willing to go the extra mile and is happy to do so! Dylan has run very consistent races all season and ran his season personal best of 18:16 at the most recent meet in Reedsburg on Sept. 28. His consistent race pattern puts him on track to break the 18:00 barrier this season, which could ultimately earn him an All-Conference award.”
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
• Margarita Silva: “As a newcomer to the sport of cross country, Margarita has been a very pleasant surprise and asset to the team. Margarita has consistently been running as one of the top five runners of the team and received top-10 honors at the home meet at Brookwood on Sept. 21. She has a work ethic that has been instrumental to her success and is always asking to do more in practice. Her cheerful attitude has also resonated within the team, as she brings such joy and fun to practice every day. Margarita sets her mind to something and just goes for it, giving it all she has. Her go-get-it attitude and determination have been a key factor to her team’s success this season.”
