The following Brookwood High School students were named athletes of the month for October. Coaches’ comments follow the students’ names.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
• Entire team: ”Our boys cross-country team concluded one of the most successful seasons in the history of our program. The team dominated the Scenic Bluffs Conference Championship meet, earned first place at the WIAA sub-sectional meet, and finished second at the Darlington sectional meet. The boys then put together their best race of the season as they captured second place at the WIAA state meet. Congratulations to Roberto Mendoza, Cristian Barrientos, Nick Friske, Charly Guzman, Dan Peterson, Dylan Powell, and Brady Hansen on a great season!”
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
• Margarita Silva: ”Margarita ended the season by narrowly missing out on a chance to run at the sectionals meet. Her consistency throughout the season helped her teammates each week, as she could always be relied on to pace the pack in meets and practices.
Margarita is always willingand asking to do more in practice, as she really wants to be the very best she can be and never backs down from a challenge. Her happy-go-lucky demeanor is also a characteristic she brings every day, and she can always lighten the mood on even the toughest workout days.”
