Blood — You can’t live without it

Contributed by Nalani Bever

Wilton community blood-drive coordinator

The American Red Cross has an emergency need for blood. If shortages continue, patient care may be delayed.

The Wilton Community Blood Drive will be from 7–11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Appointments are not necessary, but helpful. To make an appointment, call Nalani Bever at (608) 387-2311 or the Red Cross at (800) 733-2767, or go online to redcrossblood.org.

To help facilitate the flow of donors and get folks over to the breakfast table, we recommend you consider using the Red Cross RapidPass. RapidPass allows donors to complete pre-donation reading and answer health history questions from a personal or mobile device prior to arriving at a blood drive. Donors can then print their RapidPass or show the PDFs on their mobile devices when they arrive to donate. Red Cross staff scan the RapidPass form, review the donor’s answers and complete all other aspects of the health history exam.

RapidPass is available in our area at 3 a.m. on the day of the drive. That sounds crazy, but it has to do with time zones and when the system advances to the next day.
