LaVern D. Dobbs, 86, passed peacefully Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tomah.

He was born to Roy and Dott Dobbs on Dec. 7, 1925, in Vernon County. LaVern served his country as a member of the Army occupation forces in Japan at the end of World War II. He was a naturalist who made it his life to preserve wildlife and conservation.

He is survived by his loving brothers, Stacy (Margie) and Larry (Pat) Dobbs, both of Ontario; his children, Davis Dobbs and Roy Dobbs, both of Ontario, and Wanda (Brian) Steffey of Hudson, Ind.; and eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dott Dobbs; his sister, Donna Mae Dobbs; his wife, Bernadine Dobbs; a daughter, Sandra Dobbs; and a son, John Dobbs.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 720 Madison St., Ontario. A viewing will start one hour prior to the funeral. He will be laid to rest in Hilltop Rest Cemetery.
