LaVerne S. Lisney, 76, of La Farge died Saturday, May 10, 2014, surrounded by his family at Vernon Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Crawford County on April 23, 1938, to Vester and Creda (Silbaugh) Lisney. LaVerne was united in marriage with Dolly Young on Jan. 4, 1957, at Viroqua Methodist Church. LaVerne worked at Harvey Schroeder’s Mink Ranch, Badger Ordnance, Nelson Muffler, La Farge Public Schools, and the La Farge Medical Center. LaVerne was an Organic Valley squash farmer for 12 years. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman. LaVerne Lisney had many cherished family members, wonderful friends and a strong faith in God.

LaVerne is survived by his wife, Dolly Lisney of La Farge; five children, Rhonda (Rich) Everhart of La Farge, Lara (Larry) Potter of La Farge, Steve (Cindy) Lisney of La Farge, Brenda (Tony) McGuire of Mona, Iowa, and Mike (Lara) Lisney of La Farge; 11 grandchildren, Elayna, Dustin, Ashlee, Josh, Amber, Kyle, Clay, Joe, Krista, Katy and Kassy; six great-grandchildren, Makayla, Emily, Brian, Kaleb, Gage and Kynlee; two sisters: Ruth Ann Elliot of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Beverly Vlasak of Lone Rock, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Burke; and in-laws, Aleda and Joe Young.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Faith United Methodist Church Salem Ridge, with burial to follow in Star Cemetery. Friends may call at the Seland Huston Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
