The Wilton Village Board waived $9,476.69 in ambulance-service expenses at its meeting Tuesday, reconciling the gap between Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates and the actual cost of transporting patients.

The figure represented 2011 costs in excess of the reimbursements. The village legally cannot ask patients to make up the difference between Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements and the regular fees.

In all, Medicare and Medicaid payments to the Wilton Ambulance Service amounted to about $5,500 in 2011.
