Ontario’s Rummage, Bake and Book Sale set for Oct. 3–4

By LAURIE ERICKSON | Ontario librarian

The Ontario Public Library will have its Rummage, Bake and Book Sale at Gene & Pat Riddle’s home, 401 Garden St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct 4. All proceeds will benefit the library. There will be a village-wide rummage sale that weekend, so be sure to stop at the Riddles’ and support the library.

The Ontario Public Library is participating in the Compassion Project. Last fall, students in La Crosse created canvas tiles in the Compassion Project that portrayed what compassion meant to them. The tiles were shown on TV and displayed around the area in recognition of October as National Bullying Prevention Month.

This year the project has expanded to include surrounding communities and all ages. You are invited to create a tile for the project, using any medium you would like.

If you would like to participate, stop by the library for a tile and return it to the library when you are done. Tiles should be returned by mid-October to be included in the TV broadcast. However, tiles turned in later also will be included in the project.

Donations are not required, but are accepted to cover the cost of tiles and to help fund continuing efforts and education regarding the Compassion Project. More information is available at www.thecompassionproject.me.

The book group will discuss “Holes” by Louis Sachar at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8. We will discuss the book and the movie, and copies of both are available at the library for checkout. You may also view the movie at 12 p.m. on Oct. 8, immediately before the discussion.

The library will have an all-you-can-eat chili and soup supper at the Ontario Community Hall on Friday, Oct. 24, from 5-7 p.m., before bingo. There will be chili, chicken noodle soup, bread, crackers, cheese, cookies and beverages. The cost for adults is $6 apiece; and for children younger than 12, $3. Proceeds benefit the Ontario Public Library.
