We’re partnering with other Vernon County libraries and the Driftless Writing Center for the fifth annual Vernon County Reads adult reading program.
This year’s visitor is Victoria Houston, an author born and raised in Rhinelander, Wis. She is the author of 19 books of the “Loon Lake Mystery” series, which is set in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, against a background of fly fishing and fishing for muskie, bass, bluegill and walleye.
Houston is set to speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Westby Area Performing Arts Center. Free tickets are available at the door or online at wapac.ludus.com. Check out one of her books at your local library!

You’re invited to our annual Hat Luncheon! Wilmer Pearson will host the luncheon each day from Aug. 25–27. Two settings, one at 11:45 a.m. and one at 1:15 p.m., will be available to enable us to serve you safely. This year’s menu includes your choice of wild rice chicken soup or garden vegetable soup, along with a side of chef salad and cornbread, and a dessert of hummingbird cake. Coffee, tea, and lemonade will be available.
The suggested donation is $15. Call (608) 337-4651 or (608) 337-4432 for reservations. When you make your reservations, please indicate your selected time. Proceeds benefit the Ontario Public Library.
