President Trump and Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 election, are both Republicans. That’s where the similarity ends.
Trump is a serial liar and braggart. Mueller is impeccably honest and avoids the limelight.
Mueller joined the Marines and was sent through Army Ranger School and Airborne School. He was wounded in Vietnam and became a genuine war hero when he risked his life to save fellow soldiers. He earned numerous awards.
Donald Trumpavoided the draft. On the Howard Stern radio program, he described the risk of sexually transmitted diseases from his womanizing as his “Vietnam.” He referred to himself as a “brave soldier.”
Mueller has been married to his wife, Ann, for more than 50 years with no evidence of scandal. Trump flaunted his many extramarital affairs.
As a federal prosecutor, Mueller investigated organized crime figures, including Gambino boss John Gotti. Suspicion swirls around contacts between Russian crime bosses and the Trump campaign and businesses.
Good should triumph over evil, but for that to happen, Congress has to protect good. The often quoted saying of Irish statesman Edmund Burke was never more applicable: “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
We must not act like the frog in the pan of simmering water while Trump turns up the heat to destroy our democracy. Unless voters do something, evil may triumph.
