I apologize for getting my newsletter out so late this month. Computers are wonderful when they work! The sad thing is that when your granddaughter comes to your house and shows you why you are having problems. This younger generation amazes me!

I am sure you have noticed that the trees have started to turn colors already, as the first day of autumn was Sept. 23. Did we actually have a summer? If so, where did it go?

St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aid did not meet this month, as they were having a flower show at their church.

We would like to send birthday wishes to Francis Trepes, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Sept. 7 with a big celebration at the Kendall Community Hall. Other birthdays celebrated this month are: Gina Trepes on Sept. 11, Marvin Fritz on Sept. 15, George Neitzel on Sept. 27, and one our musicians, Paul Tanner, has a birthday on Sept. 29. We wish them all a happy birthday!

We will host the birthday club Wednesday, Sept. 25. Since we do not have anyone with a September birthday, Kathy Strubrud has graciously agreed to celebrate her July birthday this month, as we do not want to miss a chance for everyone to get together and have a celebration!

We host bingo on the last Thursday of the month. We hope you will be able to join us. Small prizes will be awarded. A big thank-you to Anna Fritz for donating a new remote-control bingo game to our meal site. It should be interesting!

Our group of senior instrumental musicians entertained us on the third Friday. We are pleased to see some new faces in the group. As always, we had a great time, and I’m sure you would too, so please try to join us for lunch and listen to their music next month. They play such a variety of music; I am sure you would enjoy them. Their vocals also are amazing! We eat lunch at about 11:30 a.m., but the musicians start playing at about 10 a.m., so come early.

Monroe County will hold a flu clinic at the meal site from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Everyone is invited to attend.

Reminder: There is a free service available for seniors in need of medical equipment such as hospital beds, commodes, shower chairs, and walkers. These items are available to seniors at no charge. They just ask that the items be returned when no longer needed. For more information, call Helen Milne at (608) 462-5675.

The “ARDC Connect” is a Monroe County senior newsletter published every month. The newsletter contains many interesting articles and other important information relating to senior citizens. The newsletter, as well as the monthly menu, can be picked up at the meal site, the Kendall Public library or F&M Bank in Kendall. You may also call the meal site at (608) 463-7622.

Remember to call the meal site two days ahead if you would like to join us for lunch. We do appreciate our regular participants, but would love to see some more new faces. We have very good, nutritious meals and good conversation.
