First-year head coach Bob Berg not only started his career as head coach of the Brookwood girls basketball program with a win, but also has yet to lose a game, as the Falcons are 3–0 after a trio of nonconference victories.

Berg and company will face their toughest test of the season when they host head coach Pete Lowery, a Brookwood alumnus, and the Necedah Cardinals on Friday night in a battle of 3–0 teams.

Brookwood opened the 2017–18 season on Nov. 16 with a 59–23 win over La Farge on the road. Allyson Nelson finished the game with 19 points, and Amy Berg added 15 to lead the Falcons.

The Falcons notched another road win on Nov. 21, when they dropped Viroqua 64–35. The black birds held a 31–17 advantage at halftime and basically repeated the effort in the second half.

Nelson nearly outscored the opponent alone, finishing with 32 points, leading all scorers. Lydia Madrigal and Berg each added 8, while Angel Brueggen and Cassidy Green combined for 11.

Viroqua’s Claire Anderson finished with 19 points. All other Blackhawks were held to no more than 4 points.

Brookwood continued to roll Monday night by felling Westby 46-27 and improving to 2–0 against Coulee Conference opponents for the season. The only other Coulee team left on the Falcons’ schedule is Luther, which hosts BHS Jan .22.

This Friday’s conference opener with Necedah is the last home game for the Falcons until Jan. 4, when they host Lincoln. Brookwood will play six of its next seven games on the road, starting with next week’s league contest at New Lisbon.
