After responding to a report of animals running at large, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office uncovered a significant case of animal neglect at a residence in the town of Plymouth on Oct. 4. 

Authorities located 393 animals on the property, including 126 rabbits, 35 goats, five horses, 136 chickens, 10 puppies and 81 dogs. All were voluntarily surrendered to authorities. 

As a result of the investigation, Dean Lewerenz and Amy Thomas were arrested and booked into Juneau County Jail on numerous animal-neglect charges. The case remains under investigation. 

The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office thanked the following agencies and organizations for “their swift and compassionate response”: Monroe County Humane Officer, Rocky and Rusty’s Redemption Rescue, Copper Paws and Rescue, Trempealeau County Humane Society, Shawano County Humane Society, Brown Paws Rescue, Southern Wisconsin Humane Society, Shelter from the Storm, Thrifted Kitten, Coulee Region Humane Society, Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter, and Driftless Humane Society.
