Designating its new ATV/UTV trails, the Village of Wilton last week amended its ordinance on the matter to align with state rules and language.
Users may start riding within the village once the Kendall Mustangs ATV/UTV posts the routes later this year.
All village streets will be open to ATVs and UTVs, but the designated route will be the following: County Highway M north of Wilton — Main Street — Water Street — Highway 131/S. Water St. — South St. — Midway Avenue.
Riders cannot be on Highway71 or Highway 131, except where it is part of the designated route.
Though state law allows sets the minimum age for ATV/UTV riders at 12, 16 will instead be the minimum age within Wilton. Also, those younger than 18 must wear protective gear.
To ride in the village, ATV/UTV drivers must go 15 mph, ride single file on the right-hand side of the road, have headlights on, and possess insurance cards and registration.
