Vivian Winchel

Vivian Winchel, 93, of La Farge passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 30, 1922, the daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Gates) Geddes. They lived in Bear Creek during her younger years before moving to La Farge. She graduated from La Farge High School in 1940. She married Berlie Clark in October 1941, and he preceded her in death in November 1947, shortly after he had returned from the service. On Aug. 4, 1952, she was united in marriage with Carl Winchel, who survives her.

Vivian loved music, dancing with Carl (it wasn’t an option), reading cookbooks, sewing, playing cards and many other hobbies. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking for gatherings with family and friends. Vivian was a Den Mother and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Vivian is survived by her husband, Carl Winchel of Valley, Wis.; her sons, Robert (Monty) Clark of Valley, Wis., and Steven Winchel (Sheila Townsend) of Janesville; her daughter, Pamela (Wayne) Higgs of Manitou, Ky.; her grandchildren, Christopher (Joleen) Clark of Reedsburg, Kimberly (Randy) Heisz of Janesville, Michael Clark (Kami Newkirk) of Onalaska, Christy (Benton) Hoagland of Madisonville, Ky., Dana (Kevin) Nance of Manitou, Ky., Jennifer (Jim) Roberson of Granite City, Ill., Craig Winchel of Madison, and Lyndsey Winchel of Madison; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Walter (Meradith) Winchel; and her sister-in-law, Linda Lewis.

In addition to her first husband, Vivian was preceded in death by her sister, Virgie Vail; her brothers-in-law, Glen Winchel, John Spurgeon and Leland Lewis; her sister-in-law, Garnet Winchel; and Carl’s parents, Grace and Wesley Winchel.

A celebration of Vivian’s life was Friday, April 22, at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. The family suggests memorials in her name be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Seland Huston Funeral Home is serving the Winchel family. Online condolences may be made at prattfuneralservice.com.
