It remains an official mystery who — if anyone — is leaving the employ of the Village of Norwalk.

Last week, the Norwalk Village Board met in closed session after its regular meeting to discuss personnel matters. After that, the village ran an advertisement for an employee for what Mike Wiedl called a “maintenance position,” but Wiedl refused to say any more on the issue.

“I’m not at liberty to say yet; it is still ongoing until later this week,” Wiedl told the County Line.

It is not known if this issue is related to recent conflicts with Mike Muehlenkamp, head of the maintenance staff.

Other business

• The prospect of spending millions of dollars on a new sewer plant got a bit more remote.

The board agreed to break its contract with Davy Engineering for a new facility after hearing board president Mike Wiedl speak about other options. Wiedl said he had spoken with other firms that describes possibilities for reducing phosphorous levels by other means, including working with upstream pollution sources.

The Norwalk plant cannot remove phosphorus but does have, with certain improvements, a number of years of life left in it.

A new plant would trigger a huge increase in sewer rates.

The previously planned reservoir roof project will proceed.
