The library’s chess club, The Check Mates, meets the first and third Tuesday of every month; our next meeting is Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. Players of all levels of experience are invited. The chess club has stirred an interest in other board games as well, so we have purchased some new ones; The Forbidden Island, Settlers of Catan, Connect Four and Sorry are now available at the library. Come in and check out our games cabinet.

We have preschoolers checking in on their progress for the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.” It is what it sounds like: a commitment to read 1,000 books to your preschooler before he or she turns 5 years old. Though 1,000 books sounds like an ambitious goal, by reading just three books a day, you can read more than 1,000 books in just one year. So pick out some books and start enjoying some productive lap time with your child.
