It’s been two weeks since the beginning of our monsoon week as I write this and a week since the last rain from that deluge. After a blessed week of sunshine, we are having a nice, normal rain. It will take more time to repair a lot of damages, and we hope we can get back to normal, but the worst is over, and life is beginning to be livable again.
Steve Schumann and Deb Wood with Bryana and Scott were in the West Lima area Sunday afternoon for a sibling get-together and cookout at the home of Deb’s brother Danny Green.
The Fauskas met with the Monroe/La Crosse Counties Farmers Union Board on Tuesday at the Sparta Family Restaurant. On Wednesday, Carol Bradley and Shirley Gorn picked me up to go to our monthly meeting of the Hill Country Belles Red Hats at Holvy’s Café in Hillsboro. Later in the day, Judy Sterba of Barre Mills, Wis., visited. On Friday afternoon, my husband Dave and I packed up and drove to Barron, Wis., to spend the weekend with cousin Louise Kaus and son and daughter-in-law Tom and Julie. We celebrated Louise’s 79th birthday on Saturday and watched the Packers and Vikings tie Sunday afternoon. We were home again Monday afternoon.
Guy Parkhurst came from Janesville on Friday and spent some time with Grandma Elaine Woodard before coming over the hill to our valley to spend the rest of the weekend with Grandpa Jim and Grandma Mary Parkhurst.
On Friday, Allan Vlasak joined Richard Haldeman of Tomah for a trip to Miller Park in Milwaukee to attend the Brewers game.
Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana attended Don Braund’s funeral Monday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kendall. On Wednesday, Sally was in Norwalk for a committee meeting of Monroe County Senior Dining Centers. That evening, Lynette went to Wisconsin Dells for supper at the House of Embers with Nalani Bever and a few other gals from Royall High School’s class of ‘59. On Thursday night, the gals attended the Royall High School girls volleyball game, and on Friday, they lunched at the Stagecoach Saloon with Carol Fronk, Betty Boeder, Cheryl Neitzel, Luann Huber and Rita Jahnke. Friday night was movie night at the St. John’s fellowship hall, where the Kendall Public Library sponsored “October Sky,” which is based on a true story.
It’s hard to believe that we’re already on the down side of September. Before we know it, we will be in a new month and looking forward to the annual Colors of Kendall celebration. Before then, a lot more activities are going on, and we continue to ask the Lord’s blessings as we go about our daily chores and plans. How wonderful to know that God is always in control no matter what happens, and He will see us through the good times and the bad ones if we just have faith and seek him in praise and prayer.
