Here we are in the 11th month of the year and the beginning of the holiday season. The holiday fair in Kendall is already history, but there is more to come during the next three weeks. Opening day of gun-deer season is almost upon us, and following that, we get to spend a whole day giving thanks to our Lord for the many blessings we have had since Thanksgiving a year ago. Among those blessings are the activities in our neighborhood.
At the top of Zirk Hill, Jerry was in Madison on Tuesday to see his eye doctor. On Friday, Bruce and Julie came from Dutch Hollow to see mom Evelyn and brother Jerry.
Here in the valley, Steve Schumann and Deb took Scott and Bryana to Madison on Saturday for the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament. Bry got fourth place and Scott took eighth in their respective district age groups. Congratulations, kids!
The Fauskas had a busy week beginning on the first of the month, when I picked up Mary Parkhurst to go to Carol Bradley’s for the Helpful Homemakers’ meeting and a delicious brunch. Since this was the last meeting for this year, we firmed up plans for our Christmas party and marked our calendars for our next meeting in the spring.
On Friday and Saturday, I was at the Kendall Holiday Fair with Cindy Waschek and Donna Thorson at our church women’s-ministries table, which we shared with Sandy Baldwin of Ontario. On Sunday after church, my husband Dave and I visited Donna Thorson until it was time to go to the Kendall Community Hall to attend the benefit for Zack Trepes. This young singer from Royall High School has been chosen to perform with the Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music in their 2018 European tour. We enjoyed hearing Zack perform three solos, along with a couple of delightful numbers by the Royall High School Madrigal Choir.
Arlene Garvens spent Wednesday at Olbrich Gardens in Madison, attending the Cross-Town Violet Club meeting. On Friday she and Ron shopped at the holiday fair in Kendall, and on Sunday, they were back at the community hall for Zack Trepes’ benefit concert.
On Wednesday evening, Don and Donna De Witt of Ontario picked up Jim and Mary Parkhurst for supper at the China Buffet in Mauston. On Thursday evening, the Parkhursts accompanied Ron and Arlene Garvens to the Tomah Concert Association’s performance by Roy and Rosemary, a violin-and-piano duo. On Friday they supped with the Garvens in Elroy at the Valley Inn.
On Friday, Mary Marty with Layla, Brett and Mya were at the holiday fair, where they won a door prize from our women’s-ministries table.
On Tuesday evening, Heather Vlasak attended the Royall High School fall concert, as did Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana. On Saturday, Allan and Heather, along with Joanne Pasch and Dean Tompkins, were in La Crosse to attend Sharon Lintelmann’s funeral at the Hillview Care Center.
Lynette Vlasak, Sally Dana, Eileen Richie, Linda Parrish and Carole Fronk gathered Monday to play mahjong. On Thursday, Lynette and Sally lunched at the Kendall Senior Dining Center, and Sally attended the St. John’s Ladies Aid while Lynette returned to work at the Kendall Public Library. On Friday and Saturday, the gals were busy working at the holiday fair. Then, on Friday evening, they joined Lori Cherf and took supper to Connie Dorow’s in Hillsboro. On Sunday the gals were among the benefit attendees for Zack Trepes.
Although we will celebrate a special day of thanks at the end of the month, every day should be a day of thanksgiving. Not only during the highlights of our lives, but also during the low times, God is still there, celebrating with us when we are happy and comforting us when we are sad. How blessed we are to be able to praise and glorify Him daily.
