This is the most important season for Christians: we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and after the last week of His earthly life, we remember His Last Supper with His disciples and His crucifixion the next day, and then His miraculous resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is a very special week in the Christian life beginning Sunday.
March has been a busy month for many of the neighbors, especially since the weather has cooperated. On Wednesday the Hill Country Belles Red Hat gals gathered at the Kendall Senior Dining Site for a delicious meal and a silent auction to raise funds for our treasury.
Jerry Zirk spent a week at his second home in Hayward, Wis., and returned Sunday when he was notified that his mom Evelyn had been taken to Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro with a heart attack. By the time he arrived, she was doing well and is expected to return to Milestone Assisted Living early this week.
On Thursday my niece and her hubby, Jim and Helena Boles of Racine, stopped in for a visit while they were at their property near Friendship, Wis., for a few days. On Friday evening, Dave and I attended the Kendall Public Library-sponsored showing of the movie “Wonder” at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall.
Arlene Garvens spent Saturday at Hatch Public Library in Mauston with the KTY Jun Quilt Guild for a potluck and sew day in preparation for its quilt showcoming up soon.
On Thursday, Don and Donna De Witt picked up Jim and Mary Parkhurst and took them out for supper at the China Buffet in Mauston. On Friday evening, the Parkhursts joined Ron and Arlene Garvens for fish dinner at Valley Inn in Elroy.
The Marty children — Layla, Brett and Mya — have been having some fundraising events among the family and have been saving up the money they earned. On Sunday they had a tea party for great-aunt Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana, at which time they presented librarian Lynette with a check for $100 for the Kendall Public Library expansion fund. The night before, the Marty kids had a sleepover party for several of their friends. By Monday morning, their tired parents were ready to get back to work at their jobs.
On Monday the Kendall Public Library was a busy place as volunteers gathered to paint the walls. Judy Herrewig, Carol Fronk, Betty Boeder and Vicky Ludeking joined Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana with their paintbrushes. On Tuesday, Sally attended a meeting for the Monroe County Dining Centers in Sparta. On Friday night, the gals were working at the movie “Wonder” at St. John’s.
As we begin the celebration of holy week on Palm Sunday, we pray that God will lift you up and strengthen your faith during the remembrance of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ’s last teachings and His sacrifice on the cross to save mankind from our sins. What magnificent love that He suffered and died so that we don’t have to if we only believe and accept Him as our Savior. Amen.
