As the new year progresses, the neighbors have been getting out and about again. The weather has been cooperating for the most part, and that helps us to want to get active. Here at the Fauska household, we began the week attending the Kendall Public Library potluck supper and movie “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society” Monday evening at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall.

On Tuesday we finally got together with the Fauska siblings, Darlene Martalock and Margery and Joe Collins, for a belated Christmas. We lunched at the Hillsboro Brewing Company, and then got together on South Ridge for dessert, a gift exchange and fellowship at Darl’s. OnWednesday I joined my Red Hat sisters for lunch at the Kendall Senior Dining Center.

Ron and Arlene Garvens spent the weekend in Waukesha, Wis., where they enjoyed being able to spend time with all of their siblings and spouses, along with good friends and their granddaughter and her family. They hadn’t been able to get together with some of their relatives since last year at this time, so it was a very blessed time for them.

On Tuesday, Don and Donna DeWitt of rural Ontario took Jim and Mary Parkhurst out for breakfast at Club Chaparral near Wonewoc. On Wednesday son Randy came from Orfordville, Wis., to spend a couple of days with his parents, and on Saturday and Sunday, grandson Guy Parkhurst of Janesville was there and took Jim and Mary out for Sunday breakfast at Bender’s Family Restaurant in Elroy.

It’s wrestling season again, and Brett Marty and his family spent the weekend enjoying the sport, beginning Saturday in Galesville, where he broke his string of more than 30 firsts and came in fourth. However, in Mauston on Sunday, he placed first again in his age and weight group.

On Friday, Allan Vlasak was in Westby for a Vernon Electric election-committee meeting.

Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana spent Monday preparing for the potluck and movie sponsored by the library that evening. On Thursday the gals picked up some pizza and went to Hillsboro for supper with Connie Dorow. On Saturday they were in Madison at the Vintage Brewery, where they met some friends to celebrate several January birthdays.

Winter in Wisconsin can be a challenge, but those of us who grew up in this climate are blessed with the ability to handle whatever it throws at us. God didn’t make the world with only perfect weather and some of us would be bored with sunshine and lollipops all the time. It’s good to be able to get away to a warmer area if that is your choice, and how blessed we are to be able to make that choice. As for me, I have many good memories of past winters as well as of the other seasons we enjoy at this latitude, and I am content to hibernate in my old age when the weather doesn’t suit me. Enjoy your winter, and praise the Lord for His loving care.
