Compared with other months, the Fauska February calendar isn’t as full as usual. Looking at last week, I see only the numbers of the days, with no appointments or dates for fun things. We’ve just spent the past week hibernating and taking care of the home chores, especially shoveling snow. For the real news of the neighborhood, keep reading.
Last Thursday, Randy Zirk came from Madison to see brother Jerry, and the guys went out for lunch at Beezer’s Bar and Grill in Hillsboro. After being well fed, they went to Milestone Assisted Living to visit their momEvelyn, who is doing well and is getting stronger with the therapy she is receiving.
Passing by all of us snug in our homes in the valley, we take a left turn up the hill, going to where the Garvens live. We learn that last weekend Ron and Arlene were in Waukesha, Wis., where they took daughter Korinne and spouse Randy, granddaughter Nicole and great-grandson Nathan out for Friday-night fish supper. They spent the weekend in town, and on Saturday went to Racine to visit Ron’s sister Carol and hubby Mike Lipp, with their offspring Amanda and Jeff. They spent Sunday with Ed and Alice Naber, and on Monday morning, they breakfasted with Bob and Gladys Roszkowski before heading back home. It was a wonderful weekend of fellowship with family and close friends, and the weather cooperated for traveling.
Back home again, Ron and Arlene met with Jim and Mary Parkhurst on Friday and took them to China Buffet in Mauston to celebrate Mary’s birthday, which is on Valentine’s Day.
On Tuesday evening, Allan and Heather Vlasak, Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana were at Chip and Mary Marty’s home for an early birthday celebration for the man of the house, as Chip will also age another year on Valentine’s Day. At the end of the week, Allan and Heather and Lynette were at Terrace Heights in Mauston to celebrate aunt Marcella Vlasak’s 90th birthday.
Lynette Vlasak attended a library meeting at West Salem on Thursday, and on Friday she and Sally Dana had breakfast at the Zip Stop in Westby, where Sally met up with her friends for their annual trip to Mexico. Next time we see her, she’ll be all tanned and well-traveled.
Here we are, looking at Valentine’s Day tomorrow, and hoping our sweethearts remember to do something special for us on this day for lovers. Of course, that goes both ways, as we should be thinking of being givers, not only recipients. The Bible tells us to cast our bread upon the waters and it with return to us much more. This refers to evangelism, going out and witnessing to convert others to Christianity, but it is also good advice for all of our actions. The more we give, the more we receive. Remember, God loves a cheerful giver. Remember to give back to Him, too.
