South Side News for Dec. 5

By MYRNA FAUSKA

With the Thanksgiving weekend just past, there is a lot of news to share, so I’ll get right to it instead of trying to entertain you with my usual twaddle.

Next door, the Steve Schumann family went two miles west, going up the valley to Roland and Vicki Koenig’s, where the house was filled with relatives for the feast. Roland’s brother Ray was there, as were Vicki’s brother Mike Schumann and wife Vickie of Reedsburg. Also, the Koenig offspring arrived with Tom and Nicki Fierova and kids from Northwood, Iowa, and Greg Koenig and sister Jenni and friend Eugene from Washington state. Luke and Amanda Schumann and son with brother Lance all of Tomah, and Grandma Ruth Schumann of Milestone Assisted Living in Hillsboro. Rounding out the group were Kevin Kledehn and Kelly Resac with Tim Millner and family of Necedah.

Last Monday I joined Sally Dana, Carol Bradley and Eileen Richie at the Kendall Public Library to complete our training for chief inspector for elections. Tuesday was book club at the Kendall Public Library, where we had a great discussion of the book “Circling the Sun” by Paula McLain.

My husband Dave and I enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner at the Wilton Legion Hall, where a sumptuous feast was served. On Saturday afternoon, we attended Tor Eness’ Country Christmas at the Kendall Community Hall. Joe and Marg Collins of Pine Hill Entertainment brought a busload of folks from Black River Falls for the event. Maggie Mae and Le Roy Peterson were featured performers, and the group put on a grand show, with band members singing and pianist Stuart Thayer tickling the ivories, along with Tor and the rest of the guys.

Ron and Arlene Garvens went to Hollandale, Wis., for Thanksgiving with son and daughter-in-law Kurt and Catherine. The next day, Arlene and Ron were busy getting ready for the Elroy Quilt Show, which was Saturday and Sunday at Royall Middle School.

Randy Parkhurst stayed with his parents Jim and Mary for a couple days after last weekend, hoping to get a deer, but went home Tuesday emptyhanded. Jim and Mary spent Thanksgiving with Don and Donna DeWitt and family of Ontario at the Wilton American Legion Hall. On Saturday, Guy Parkhurst was on his way home from hunting at his grandma Elaine Woodard’s north of Kendall and had two deer with him. He had dinner with his Parkhurst grandparents before heading home to Janesville.

Thanksgiving was celebrated at The Ranch in Johnnycake Hollow. Allan and Heather Vlasak attended, as did Lowell and Arlys Zellmer with their offspring, Paul and Nicole Zellmer and kids, Rachel Zellmer and friend Filipe, and Chip and Mary Marty and kids. Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana were also there to enjoy the family feast, as was Pete Felt, his daughter Susan and her son Christopher of Onalaska.

This is probably the least news you will ever receive from Lynette and Sally Dana. As you know, Sally was with us Monday at the chief-inspector training, and on Tuesday, Lynette joined her as she led the book club discussion. The rest of the week, Lynette kept busy preparing Advent calendars for her seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

As we continue to thank our Lord daily, we are preparing for the celebration of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ in three more weeks. We pray that we all will remember during the hustle and bustle of the season to keep Jesus foremost in our hearts. On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Joy Circle at Grace Lutheran Church will be hold its annual Advent breakfast at 10 a.m. If you are able to attend, you will be blessed with the true meaning of Christmas, which will help to remind us that the first six letters of Christmas is “Christ.” I hope to see many of you there.
