Nolan McKittrick and Harley Leverenz claimed regional championships last weekend at the Division 3 regional competition at Brookwood.
McKittrick (38–3) received a bye in both the quarterfinals and semifinal rounds, and then defeated Riverdale’s Jonah Dennis with a first-period pin.
Leverenz (16–15) won his first match by fall, and then bested top-seeded Shayne Sparby (Necedah) with a 9–2 decision to put him in the finals. Leverenz defeated the second seed, Ithaca/Weston’s Trevor Templen, by fall in the final.
Michael Lincoln (10–11) was fifth at 113. Dalton Pasch (12–16) was fifth at 120. Bryce Gruen (6–2) was third at 126.
At 138, Ethan Palamaruk (12–21) was sixth. Ashton Roach (9–9) was third at 145, and Josh Palamaruk (11–19) was fourth at 152. Also, Jameson Bender (16–15) was third at 160, and Evan Palamaruk (7–15) finished fifth at 170. Luke Wohlrab (27–11) was fourth at 182, Laredo Benson (19–13) took third at 195, Mason McCluskey was third at 220, and Cody Meltesen (5–10) was sixth at 285.
Royall was third with 165 points. Riverdale won the regional with 234.5 points and advanced to the team sectional to face Aquinas. Fennimore and Pecatonica/Argyle also qualified for team sectionals.
Ithaca/Weston was second with 201.5 points; New Lisbon, fourth with 155; Brookwood, fifth with 141.5; Hillsboro, sixth with 89; and Necedah, seventh with 27.
The individual sectional tournament will be at Mineral Point on Saturday, Feb. 16, starting at 10 a.m.
SBC Sectional Qualifiers
Joining the Brookwood and Royall wrestlers at this weekend’s sectional meet will be 12 other Scenic Bluffs wrestlers.
New Lisbon’s Jake Rogers (32–5), Kaleb Baumgart (27–6), Sam Rogers (29–5) and Josh Woggon (30–9) won regional titles at 138, 152, 170, and 285, respectively. Dalton Lee (24–12) was second at 120.
Hillsboro’s Yobani Mora (19–7) was second at 152. Necedah’s Lane Meltesen (26–11) took second at 160.
At the Aquinas regional, Cashton pushed five wrestlers through to sectionals. Tristan Grant (20–11) won the 145 bracket. Regional runners–up included Damian Mellen (4–17) at 106, Preston Schreier (15–11) at 132, Matthew Harter (24–12) at 138, and Ty Costello (21–9) at 152.
