Robert “Coon” Lane Brueggeman, 61, of Ontario, Wis., lost his battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born July 2, 1957, and raised up Cook Creek in rural Ontario. He graduated Brookwood High School in 1975. He was the Public Works Director for the Village of Ontario for 32 years. Coon loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, ginsenging, and searching for mushrooms. Coon loved to play a friendly game of cards with his family. His family and friends were his No. 1 priority. 

Coon is survived by his wife, Connie Brueggeman of Ontario; his son, Luke (Lori) Brueggeman of Blue River, Wis.; a stepdaughter, Nicole (Eugene) Springstead of Marshall, Minn.; a stepson, Jason Brueggeman of Kendall; five grandchildren, Krysta, Mercedes, Brady, Abby, and Lilly; a great-granddaughter, Hayley; his mother, Ruthie (Darrell) Parker of Wilton; and his siblings, JoAnn (James) Peterson of Tomah, Donald Brueggeman of Kendall, David (Marlene) Brueggeman of Wilton, Douglas (Shelly) Brueggeman of Ontario, Sue Rego of Ontario, and Wendy Brueggeman of Madison. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Al (Wendy) Wallace of Ontario.

He was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne Brueggeman; his brother-in-law, Harry Rego; and all of his grandparents.

A celebration of Coon’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Faith Independent Baptist Church in Ontario. Pastor Gjefle and Pastor Milleman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Sunday. A luncheon will follow at the church. Burial will be held at a later date.
