Readers win messenger bags in Wilton program

By GINA RAE | Wilton Public Library director

Seventeen people read and wrote reviews on four books in February, and each person received a Winding Rivers Library System messenger bag through the Wilton Public Library’s Hot Reads for Cold Nights adult winter reading program.

Congratulations, and bring on some “warmer” nights! These reviews are available for browsing at the library.

Our library book group will discuss “Hidden Figures” by Margot Lee Shetterly at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 10. The Academy Award-nominated movie based on this book will be released on DVD in April, and we will show it in the library at 10 a.m. Monday, April 24.

The journal work group will meet at the library at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30. If you are looking for a group to support your intention to write regularly, this group might be for you.

Do you have a child who loves dogs? We have a therapy dog that works in our building that would love to be read to by your child. This dog is safe, certified and insured for working with children or adults. Call the library for arrangements at 435-6710.

The library’s chess club, The Check Mates, continues to meet the first and third Tuesday of every month. Our next meeting will be at 4 p.m. on April 4. Players of all levels of experience are invited to attend.

Our homeschool group has been growing by leaps and bounds. This group regularly meets in the library on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at 2 p.m., and our moms do a great job providing activities and social time for their kids. If you are interested in participating, please call the library so you can join this cooperative effort.

Preschoolers continue to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. It is what it sounds like: a commitment to read 1,000 books to your preschooler before her or she turns 5 years old. Though 1,000 books sound like an ambitious goal, by reading just three books a day, you can read more than 1,000 books in just one year. There is no rush; the only deadline is when a child enters kindergarten. So pick out some books and start enjoying some productive lap time with your child.
