The Royall volleyball team bounced back after its first conference loss with a resounding 3–0 win at New Lisbon on Sept. 29.
The Rockets pushed hard against Royall’s efforts in the first set, but the Panthers took a 25–23 win. From that point on, Royall seemed to cruise ahead, locking up the second set 25–18 and third set 25–10.
Paige Hyer and Kenzie Baeseman combined for 30 kills and 28 assists in the victory. Hyer also tallied five serving aces, and Emma Herek added three. Ally Stanek and Kelsea Storkel were key on defense, collecting seven digs a piece.
With the victory, the Panthers improved to 19–4 overall and 8–1 in league play.
The Panthers will finish the conference schedule with a trip to Bangor on Thursday, and then host Wonewoc-Center on Tuesday and Necedah on Thursday.
Brookwood/Cashton 3–0
The Brookwood volleyball team was felled by a hot-hitting Cashton squad 3–0 on Sept. 29.
The Falcons effort couldn’t be faulted early on, as the team started out strong behind serving from Amy Berg. The defense held up as Cashton, led by hitters Jamie Schmitz and Jordan Williams, peppered away at the Falcon six, but the offense wasn’t able to reply. The Eagles took game one 25–17, game two 25–23 and the final game 25–17.
“Our defense was amazing,” said Brookwood head coach Jeanine Brieske. “We were really digging up everything, and our passing overall was pretty good. We just couldn’t put the ball away like we wanted to.”
Berg finished the night 16–17 in serving. Also, Zoey Rynes landed seven blocks and four kills off blocks, plus Angel Brueggen tallied 11 digs.
The Falcons will host Wonewoc-Center (6–10, 4–5) Thursday for their annual Dig Pink night. The team will sponsor a most-pink-dressed contest and a serving contest between the second and third sets of the match to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
