Despite playing Necedah well in the first half, Royall couldn’t keep the home team from scoring in the second and fell 36–25 on Dec. 12.

Royall held Necedah well through the first 18 minutes of play, trailing by just 4 at halftime. Necedah continued to gain momentum the rest of the night, however, as it outscored its opponent 20–13 in the second half.

Lindsey Murphy was the only player to finish in double digits. The Necedah seniors scored 10 after going 5–13 from the field.

McKenzie Baeseman finished with 9 points to lead Royall, which falls to 1–4 on the year and 1–3 in league play. Emma Gruen added 6; Paige Britzman, 5; Emily Olson, 3; and Cheyenne Harris, 2.

The Panthers host Ithaca on Friday, Dec. 22, and will resume league action after the calendar change by hosting Brookwood on Jan. 5.

Another night, another win as Falcons stay perfect in league play

The Brookwood girls basketball team was one of just three teams left with an unblemished league mark after defeating rival Cashton last week 49–30.

The Falcons took care of business from the opening tipoff, and they improved to 3–0 in Scenic Bluffs Conference action. Only Bangor and Hillsboro remain unbeaten in league play.

Defensively, Brookwood held Cashton to just 15 points in each half. The visiting team scored 30 points in the first half, holding a 15-point advantage, which they maintained.

Allyson Nelson powered her way to a game-high 19 points, while Angel Brueggen added 14. Amy Berg’s 8, Lydia Madrigal’s 5 and Shelly Powell’s 3 rounded out the scoring effort by the winning team. Cashton’s Allison Brownell scored 10 in the loss.

The Falcons are off until Jan. 2, when they host Lincoln in a nonconference game.
