Royall split with Cashton and Hillsboro in the second of two league quadrangulars on Oct. 4 in Hillsboro.
The Panthers opened with a 3–0 loss to Cashton (25–16, 25–20, 25–21). The offense was as balanced as ever, as McKenzie Baeseman landed 17 kills while the rest ofthe team combined for 13 kills. Tais Gueye had four; Kaylin Gruen and Lauren Miller each had three; Emily Olson, two; and Claire Herek, one.
The team recorded six blocks in the loss: Baeseman had three; Miller, two; and Gueye, one. Baeseman and Emma Herek each had seven digs.
A quick rebound was in the cards, as Royall defeated Hillsboro in the nightcap 3–1 (23–25, 25–21, 25–8, 26–24).
Baeseman tallied 30 kills in 60 attempts. Also, Claire Herek added six; Gueye, four; Miller, three; and Gruen, two.
Emma Herek led the defense with 14 of the team’s 27 digs. Gueye had four blocks in the match, plus she had 33 assists. Jessica Mitchell led Hillsboro with 15 kills.
The win-loss combo forces the Panthers into a tie with Brookwood and Bangor for second place in the league. Cashton remains one game ahead of the pack at the start of this week.
Falcon volleyball cruises to three wins
The Falcon volleyball team took care of business last week after sweeping New Lisbon, Necedah and Wonewoc-Center in league play.
Brookwood got its revenge against New Lisbon in the first game of the conference quadrangular on Oct. 4. with a 3–0 win (25–21, 25–22, 25–14). As a unit, Brookwood missed just two serves in the match and recorded 10 aces a team.
Zoey Rynes led the offense with 14 kills, while Lydia Madrigal added six; and Elena Witt, four. Ellen Marriott had 31 assists.
After waiting for more than an hour for Necedah, its next opponent, to finish its match against Bangor, Brookwood managed to stay warm and knock off the Cardinals 3–0 (25–19, 25–22, 25–22). Rynes led the team with 16 kills and a pair of blocks, and Rylee Hall and Madrigal combined for 11 kills. Also, Angel Brueggen led with 17 digs.
Brookwood finished play last week with a 3–0 win at Wonewoc-Center to stay tied with Bangor and Royall for second place in the league.
