Ontario Public Library offering playgroups for preschoolers

By LAURIE ERICKSON | Ontario librarian

Preschoolers are invited to join us for playgroups at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. There will be stories, activities, crafts and a snack. We are using an alphabet theme, and this week the theme is the letter “S.”

An all-you-can-eat chili and soup supper will be at the Ontario Community Hall before bingo on Friday, Oct. 24, from 5-7 p.m. Bingo begins at 7:30 p.m. The menu will consist of chili, chicken noodle soup, crackers, bread, cheese, cookies and beverages. The cost for adults is $6 a piece; and for children, $3 a piece. All proceeds will benefit the Ontario Public Library.

The book group will discuss “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café” by Fannie Flagg at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. This book also was made into a movie, and copies of the book and movie are available at the library. The movie also will be shown at the library at 11:30 a.m., just before the discussion. There will even be popcorn.

Hey, do you have hay? We could still use some old hay (not straw) for the community garden. If you know of some that might be available, please give the library a call at 337-4651. We would like to get it on the lasagna garden before winter.
