Ontario Public Library announces raffle winners

By LAURIE ERICKSON | Ontario Public Library director

At the Ontario Public Library’s Knit Wits raffle drawing last week, Betty Burch won the quilt, Kathy Stoikes won the sports basket, Amy Ehlers won the dog accessories basket, Diane Hubbard won the bath basket, Cheryl Eness won the baby basket, Bernie Kelly won the bird-feeding basket, Anita Laznicka won the games basket and Jennifer Hunter won the winter basket.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone who bought tickets. We raised more than $700 for the library.

Stop in the library on Friday, July 20, for an open house for the retiring director. It’s time for me to turn over the keys to April Arndt, the new library director. I’ve enjoyed being your librarian and have appreciated your support these past 19 years. It’s been an honor.

The annual Hat Luncheon will be at noon each day from Aug. 1–3. This benefit for the library will be at the Wilmer Pearson residence at 302 Park St., Ontario. The menu will consist of a garden salad, lasagna, a vegetable, garlic bread and vanilla cloud torte. The cost is $15, and reservations can be made by calling the library at 337-4651 or Wilmer Pearson at 337-4432.

The book group will discuss “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8. Stop by the library for a copy of the book if you would like to join the discussion.

Sock ‘Em will meet Wednesday, July 18, at 9 a.m. to continue work on a sock pattern. If you enjoy knitting more interesting sock patterns, join us.

The community garden is planted and growing. Dig out your gloves and join us each Monday at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting, and help us keep the garden looking great.
