Ontario Legion Auxiliary to hold poppy canvass

By KRISS HETZEL | Ontario Legion Auxiliary

We discussed many future activities at our April meeting.

We made decisions about our July 4 raffle and noted the contributions we have already. All donations will be printed on the tickets, which will be printed by Memorial Day.

We voted on our Brookwood scholarship recipient, and Luanne made the presentation May 10.

Sue and Kriss will do a poppy presentation to the third-graders at Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary School.

We also discussed a date to clean the Ontario American Legion Hall, setting it for 8 a.m. Thursday, May 18. The hall needs a little sprucing up and spring cleaning.

In addition, we will canvass Ontario for poppy donations to support local veterans Friday, May 19. Except for the cost of the poppies, all proceeds stay in our community to help veterans. The poppies are made by hand by veterans. Please meet at the Legion Hall at 5 p.m. Friday, May 19. The more help we have, the less time it will take, and we can cover more of the community.

Lastly, we discussed giving Americanism certificates to residents who appropriately display the American flag. More details will follow.

Our next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 22.  There are still a few members who have not paid their 2017 dues, so please try to get those paid.  Please try to help clean the American Legion Hall and canvass for poppies if at all possible. Thank you, ladies!
