Ontario Knit Wits’ cookie, treat sale set for Dec. 8

By LAURIE ERICKSON | Ontario Public Library director

The Ontario Public Library Knit Wits’ annual cookie-and-holiday-treats sale is set for Friday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. until sold out. Cookies are $4 a dozen, and proceeds will benefit the library. Get your holiday baking done and support the library at the same time. If you would like to donate cookies to the sale, give the library a call.

The book group will discuss “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13. This a “gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is possible to really know our spouses-and, ultimately, ourselves,” according to the publisher’s blurb. Stop by the library for a copy if you would like to join the discussion.

The time for the showing of the PBS series “The Vietnam War” has changed to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the Ontario Public Library. We will continue to watch and discuss each of the 10 parts in this important series.

There is no single truth in war, and each part explores the war from all sides. The series takes an in-depth look at a controversial event in American history

We will have a paint-party fundraiser for the library from 1–4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the library! The cost is $35, and you will have your choice of two canvases to pick from. Brookwood art teacher Patti Holte will lead you step by step in creating the painting of your choice. All supplies and refreshments are included in the charge. The event is limited to 30 people, so get your name on the list. Enjoy the afternoon and support the library.

The media-conversion lab has arrived. The library has equipment for patrons to use to convert audiocassettes and vinyl to either compact discs or thumb drives. We also have equipment to convert VHS tapes to DVDs. So sort through those old tapes now and plan to get them converted to today’s formats.

The tapes cannot have a copyright, but those old family videos or recordings can be converted. There will be instructions that you can use to convert your audiocassettes, vinyl records or VHS tapes.

Call the library to sign up for a time that is convenient for you. The equipment is part of the Winding Rivers Library System Media Conversion Lab, and we will have the equipment through Saturday, Dec. 16.
