Norwalk’s Rails to Trails Marathon, originally scheduled for Oct. 4, 2020, has been canceled due to Covid-19-related issues.
Annually, the marathon draws upward of 1,000 participants, and proceeds from this event are used to provide scholarships and to address various community projects. This is the second time in three years this event has been unable to occur; in 2018, flooding in the region was the reason the race wasn’t run. The repeated cancelation of the marathon has resulted in diminished funds available.
In an effort to recoup some of the lost funds, Rails to Trails has decided to host 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Additional information will be forthcoming. Individuals wishing to donate to the community projects funded by Rails to Trails may do so by contacting Theresa Lehner at talehner@yahoo.com.
The 2021 Rails to Trails Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3. A 5-kilometer race will also be held at that time, and will a 1-mile fun run for children.
