They never gave; they just ran out of time. That was the story of Brookwood’s final softball game of the season when the team fell at Necedah 9–7 on May 23.
Brookwood scored the opening run of the game on a double by Lydia Madrigal to score Angel Brueggen. However, the team struggled to get out of the second inning as Necedah came to life. The Cardinals had only one hit in the inning, but capitalized on a pair of errors to take a 3–1 lead.
Ellen Marriott tied the game with a double in the third inning to score Faith Wathke and Brueggen. Necedah posted a six-run rally in the end of the inning and led 9–3.
Marriott started a seventh-inning rally with a single. Alyssa Ottum and Amy Berg followed suit to get two runs back. Two walks helped drive in two more runs, but Necedah held defensively to end the game.
Brookwood ended with six runs and nine walks. Necedah walked just three times and had five hits.
Berg took the loss after a complete game’s worth of work, striking out seven. Isabell Negaard earned the win for Necedah, striking out six.
Necedah lost its regional final game 5–4 at Luther.
Brookwood finishes the season 8–9 overall.
