A variety of end-of-summer business occupied the Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton School Board at its regular meeting Aug. 14.
Among the items discussed are the following:
• Principal Brad Pettit noted that no foreign-exchange students would attend Brookwood for the 2017–18 school year, plus he reviewed student registration information. Also, Pettit gave the board the district testing schedule for 2017–18.
• Director of Special Education Cindy Springborn detailed the status of the special education program, including programming, caseload assignments, and goals for follow-up on certain programs. She also discussed how the arrangement of the special education staff was functioning.
Additionally, Springborn reviewed special education testing and included a list of her activities and duties as the school psychologist and director of special education.
• Athletic Director Ken Clinton reported on the WIAA providing concussion insurance to all student athletes in the state this year, the online registration system for student-athletes, the refurbishing of the weight room, and details of this year’s homecoming event.
• The board approved nine alternate open-enrollment applications to attend the N-O-W School District and five open-enrollment applications of resident students who wish to attend other school districts.
• A request had been made to put memorial patches on the cross-country uniforms in memory of Logan Ferries, a Brookwood student who died in a hunting accident last spring.
• The board approved the option of donating nonperishable food items to the Falcon Food Pantry rather than pay an admission fee to the Sept. 29 football game against Hillsboro.
• Changes in salaries and benefits were deferred until after the board has access to the new state budget.
