The Monroe County Special Waste Cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, when residents may bring hazardous and special wastes from homes and farms.
The cleanup will be at the Monroe County landfill, 20448 Junco Road, Norwalk.
Hazardous waste consists of the following: lawn chemicals, household cleaners, insect sprays, paints, medications, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), waste oil and oil filters, antifreeze, rechargeable batteries, lithium and button batteries (hearing aid, camera, etc.) small helium and liquid propane tanks smaller than 20 pounds, agriculture plastics ($49 per ton effective Jan. 1, 2016), tires (10 cents per pound), appliances, TVs, computers and electronics at $10 per item, fluorescent tubes at 50 cents each, and $3 per HID lamp.
The following will not be accepted: explosives (shotguns shells, fireworks, gunpowder, etc.), radioactive materials, and garbage and large items (couches, chairs, demolition material).
