Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary Ellen Sullivan, 83, of East Moline, Ill., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline, Ill.
Burial will be at 12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary’s Ridge Cemetery in Cashton.
Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, LTD, East Moline, Ill., with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Activity Fund.
Mary Ellen died Oct. 2, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, with her family by her side.
She was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Sparta, the daughter of James and Irene Meseberg Sullivan.
She retired as a nutritional services supervisor from the former Moline Public Hospital in 1988, after 35 years.
Mary Ellen enjoyed attending July 4 celebrations in Ontario with her family and special friends, Earl and Paulette Ferries of Ontario. She looked forward to going out to dinner on Wednesday evenings with cousins Patty, Gary, Donna, and Tom. Mary also loved attending holiday gatherings with family.
Mary Ellen was a devoted member and volunteered at St. Mary’s Church East Moline for more than 20 years. She was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a member of the parish’s traditional and funeral choirs, and an active member of the area’s Cursillo Community. She received the Diocese of Peoria’s 2006 Pere Marquette Award for outstanding service to her parish.
Survivors include her cousins, Jim (Pat) Dzekunskas of Andover, Ill., Anita (Don) Senn of Moline, Bev (Paul) Demeurisse of Silvis, Ill., Vic (Terry) Dzekunskas of Colona, Ill., Gary Dzekunskas of Geneseo, Ill., Mary (Otto) Breitmeyer of East Moline, Rita (Jim) Anderson of Moline, Donna (Tom) Turpel of Davenport, Iowa, Patty (Gary) Clements of Coal Valley, Barb (Dale) Graham of East Moline, Carlene (Bob) Graham of Colona, David Sullivan (Ron Small) of Moline, Mike Sullivan of Moline, Hope Meseberg of La Farge, and a special cousin, Cheryl Dzekunskas of Silvis.
