A Wonewoc man was arrested Sept. 20, about two days after he had fled an officer who had stopped his vehicle, according to Hillsboro Police Chief Patrick Clark.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, a City of Hillsboro officer attempted to stop a maroon 1995 Chevrolet K1500 for attempting to follow too closely, for unreasonable and imprudent speed, and for failing to stop at a stop sign. A short pursuit ensued, ending when the vehicle left the roadway at the intersection of Harrison and Spring streets. The driver then fled on foot.
Police identified a suspect through personal effects located in the vehicle and statements from multiple witnesses who observed a male party matching the description of the suspect being on foot in Hillsboro between the time of the crash and about 4:30 a.m. the following morning.
After an investigation, the police department determined that the driver was Casey P. Gardner of Wonewoc. Gardner was arrested on Sept. 20 and booked into the Vernon County Detention Center on charges of felony fleeing an officer.
Gardner also received multiple traffic citations for violations made during the pursuit.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Vernon County K9 Myk, and the Wonewoc Police Department assisted the Hillsboro Police Department.
