Letter to the editor: Wilton Legion members ‘thoroughly soaked and cold’ on Memorial Day

By ROGER O'GARA | Wilton Legion Adjutant

In the May 30 County Line, there was no mention or pictures of Wilton’s Memorial Day ceremonies. We toured six cemeteries and our veterans memorial with an honor guard, a drummer, and a bugler. The last four stops, we stood in the pouring rain as the names were read, each followed by a drum roll, and then the firing squad and finally “Taps.”

When we finally returned to the Legion Hall for lunch, we were thoroughly soaked and cold. But we did our duty because we’re tough old soldiers who have not yet “faded away,” in the words of Gen. McArthur.
