Letter to the editor: Thank you to those who helped with Norwalk Fire Department tournament

By ALEX KARIS | Norwalk Fire Department

The Norwalk Fire Department, after nine months of planning for its fund-raising ball tournament, was disappointed by Mother Nature when it left Norwalk’s ball field in shambles.

While it was extremely frustrating and disappointing, there were many great people who stepped up to help make this a great success. The Village of Wilton opened up its ball field to us without hesitation; the Wilton Lions Club offered us its shelter for us to still conveniently sell our concessions. The Place in Norwalk opened up its walk-in cooler for us to store cold items, and many others dropped what they were dealing with in their personal lives after Mother Nature dealt us all a blow. It is greatly appreciated and makes me realize just how fortunate we all are to live in great communities that, when times get tough, we are able to step up and help our neighbors out at a moment’s notice. Thank you to all that played a part in making our fundraising tournament a huge success.

Perhaps you are one of the millions who tune into CBS’ “60 Minutes” most Sunday nights. Maybe, like me, you have done so for the best part of 50 years.
