Ontario Police Department
The Ontario Police Department would like to bring to public attention another of the multiple types of fraudulent activity being perpetrated in our area.
An unauthorized person(s) posing as representative(s) of Publisher’s Clearing House is producing mailings in which the recipient is told he or she is the winner of a large sum of money. Included in the mailing is a check that is to be deposited in the recipient’s account in exchange for the recipient withdrawing a smaller sum of cash for “legal fees” and mailing it to an address prior to receiving the prize. By the time the recipient realizes the prize hasn’t shown up, the cash will be gone, and the check in the bank will subsequently “bounce” because it is fraudulent.
If you receive any mailing from Publisher’s Clearing House, feel free to contact Publisher’s Clearing House to verify the validity of the mailing. Don’t feel rushed into taking any action. Time will reveal scams before it’s too late.
Be aware so that you don’t become a victim.
