Lady Falcons cause malfunction for Rockets

The formula for success hasn’t varied much for the Brookwood girls basketball team this season. The team relied on a concentrated scoring effort from key contributors as it improved to 2–1 after a 69–24 win over New Lisbon on Friday, Dec. 2.

Brookwood led 49–13 at the half.

Allyson Nelson nearly outscored the Rockets by herself, as she finished with 23 total points. Lydia Madrigal added 11, Claudia Alcantar tossed in 9, and Amy Berg and Angel Brueggen each chimed in for 7 in the win.

New Lisbon’s Callie Bever scored 13 after going 3–6 in field goals and shooting 7–7 at the free throw line.

As a team, the Rockets committed 33 turnovers.

Brookwood continues conference play Friday, when they host Hillsboro in a pivotal conference contest. The Tigers are 4–0 entering this week.

Hillsboro takes win at Royall in league opener

A young Hillsboro team was able to outplay Royall in the conference opener on Dec. 2, earning a 39–22 victory.

Scoring 14 points for the visiting Tigers, freshman Molly Crandall landed four 3-pointers in four attempts and added a single field goal. Hillsboro built a 21–10 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Emily Olsen paced Royall with an 8–point effort, and Kirstin Lunde added 6 to the final score. Also, McKenzie Baeseman, Claire Herek, Emma Herek, and Lauren Miller each added 2 points in the losing effort.

The Panthers even up at 2–2 on the season, but fallto 0–1 in conference play. Royall will host Wonewoc-Center on Friday.

Around the SBC

Hillsboro improved to 4–0 after defeating Royall last week. Bangor is 3–0 after its 85–34 win against Necedah on Friday. Four players finished in double-digits, led by Haylee Lenord, who went 5–5 from the three-point line in the win. Cashton is 2–1 on the season after earning a 59–17 win at Wonewoc-Center on Friday. The Wolves are now 0–4on the season.
