Kendall meal site to host music, bingo

By ALRITA BENISH | Kendall meal-site manager

I apologize that I am late with my column this month. Computers are wonderful when they work!

The St. John’s Lutheran Ladies’ Aid met on the first Thursday of the month.

We do not have a member of the birthday club with a November birthday, so Shirley Gorn has agreed to celebrate her July birthday this month. She will host her birthday party on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

We usually schedule bingo for the fourth Thursday of the month, but due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we will host our next bingo Tuesday, Nov. 27. We hope you will be able to join us. Small prizes will be awarded.

Our group of senior instrumental musicians will entertain us Friday, Nov. 16. We are pleased to see some new faces in the group. As always, we have a great time, and I’m sure you would, too, so please try to join us for lunch and listen to their music. They play such a variety of songs; I am sure you would enjoy them. Their vocals are also amazing. We eat lunch at about 11:30 a.m., but the musicians start playing around 10 a.m., so come early.

There is a free service available for seniors in need of medical equipment such as hospital beds, commodes, shower chairs, and walkers. These items are available to seniors at no charge. They just ask that the items be returned when no longer needed. For more information, call Helen Milne at (608) 462-5675.

The following is a message from Alice Ackerman, elder specialist from the Aging and Disability Resource Center: “When was the last time you checked your prescription-drug plan? Has it been a few years? I will be at the Kendall meal site on Wednesday, Nov. 28, to go over options that may lower your costs. Already this year, I have helped several people save over $1,000 by checking their coverage and changing to a plan that better matches the meds that they take. To do a prescription drug checkup, please give Alrita a list of your current meds, including dosage, as well as how often you take them. She will also need your new Medicare number and the date you enrolled in Part A and Part B. She will need to send the information to me as soon as possible so I could have the results for you on the 28th. You may also fax the information to me at (608) 269-8688, Attn: Alice Ackerman. If you have questions, feel free to call me at (608) 269-8693.”

Remember to call the meal site a day ahead if you would like to join us for lunch. We do appreciate our regular participants but would love to see some more new faces. We have very good, nutritious meals and good conversation.

I would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Our site will be closed Nov. 22–23.

Good luck, deer hunters!
