Injured great-horned owl makes significant progress

This photo of the great-horned owl was taken Tuesday. (Coulee Region Humane Society photo)

Although last week’s report on the health of the owl found shot in Wilton last month was a bit worrisome, it appears things are looking up for our feathered friend.

Kathy KasaKaitas, rescue supervisor at the Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska, reports being “pleasantly surprised on the progress from after the last vet visit.”

They plucked all of the feathers around the wound and continued to clean it.

“When I took him/her (now I’m not sure) out of the cage, he was flapping really strong and is now holding that wing up more closely to the body. This is a great move forward.”

There had been concern that the wing was seriously damaged.

Some of our terrific readers have sent get-well cards to Mr. Owl, and KasaKaitas noted her appreciation.

“Thank you to everyone in the community for all of the cards and well wishes and donations. Thank you, thank you.”

If you would like to cheer up Mr. Owl with a note or a card and perhaps a small donation, send them to Mr. Owl, % Coulee Region Humane Society, 911 Critter Court, Onalaska, WI 54650.
